When you reface cabinets, the finish you choose does more to change the look of the kitchen than anything else. We offer three: stain, paint and thermofoil. Each has its strengths.
Stain soaks into real wood and lets the grain show through. It suits traditional and transitional kitchens and hides small scratches well, because the color runs into the wood rather than sitting on top. Stains range from light natural tones to deep espresso.
Paint gives a smooth, solid color, from classic white to grey, navy or black. It's the go-to for a brighter, more modern kitchen. Painted doors look crisp, but chips can show more than on a stained door, so it's worth being gentle around high-traffic drawers.
Thermofoil is a vinyl layer heat-formed over an engineered-wood door. It has a seamless, uniform finish, wipes clean with a damp cloth, and resists moisture, which makes it popular in busy family kitchens and rentals. Keep it away from direct oven heat, and it holds up for years.
The best way to decide is to see samples in your own kitchen, under your own light, next to your floors and countertops. We bring door samples to every estimate so you can compare them side by side.
